Beware of scam calls impersonating from the Macao Network Information Centre

Recently, the Macao Network Information Centre (MONIC) has received reports from citizens who received phone calls from callers impersonating the MONIC, alleging that their mainland China or Macao mobile phone numbers have sent large amounts of advertisements, applied for domain names or involved in criminal cases, and asking the citizens to cooperate in handling the matters.

The MONIC clarifies that it did not make such calls to the public. It reminds the public that scammers are employing many different defrauding tricks and the public should stay alert. If citizens receive similar phone calls, please be cautious and do not follow any instructions or disclose any personal information. Citizens who suspect fraud may call the Judiciary Police’s anti-fraud hotline 8800 7777 or the crime reporting hotline 993 for assistance.
