Newly published “Regulation on Internet Domain Name Registration of the Macao Special Administrative Region”

Macao government has published “Regulation on Internet Domain Name Registration of the Macao Special Administrative Region” (Regulation) which is approved under the notice 4/2014 by Secretariat for Transport and Public Works in “Macao Special Administrative Region Official Gazette” 3 Series I, ” on 20 January 2014 and was effective from 21 January, 2014. The Regulation will be uploaded at the MONIC website on the same day for public’s consultation.

Notice: According to the Regulation, the content in the revised version include: Launching on the first period of Chinese & Portuguese domain name application; Allow application for a second-level domains without first apply for a third-level domains; Permission on Commercial Entrepreneur, singular person to apply for domain name registration; The duration of a domain name registration extended from one year to three years, The registration fee is charged on a yearly basis, either the registration fee or renewal fee for one domain name a year is MOP200.

Furthermore, according to the Article 15 Transitional Provisions in the Regulation, the priority registration will be scheduled. At the time, the stages are subdivided for the public entity within Macao SAR, the trademark or patent holder within the Macao SAR and the domain name registrations which have not yet been cancelled before the publication of this regulation. Within 120 days from the date of entry into force of this regulation, the order specified in the precedence the domain name application registration consists of the Chinese characters, the Portuguese special characters and the domain name with suffix .mo. Arrangements will be published on our website.
